The Central Michigan District Health Department and the Together We Can Health Improvement Council will be hosting the 4th Annual Public Health Summit and Spokesperson Training this April.
The summit is scheduled for April 8th, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The training will be on April 9th, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Both events will be held at the Comfort Inn & Suites and Conference Center in Mt. Pleasant, MI.
The 4th Annual Public Health Summit will include three speakers. Melissa Kesterson will share her experience with community gardens; Lt. Governor Brian Calley will speak about the 4×4 plan and the Michigan Healthier Tomorrow campaign; and Dr. Craig Thomas from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will discuss national prevention strategies, and the “Winnable Battles.” The Summit will also include the latest “County Health Rankings” and the Community Health Improvement Plan. This day is free of charge but please bring a fresh fruit or vegetable to the event as a donation to be given to local food pantries. A healthy lunch will be served and a wellness walk through nearby trails is also included in the day’s agenda.
The second day will include the Facilitator and Spokesperson Training, which will be led by Jan O’Neill. Jan is a Community Engagement Specialist on the County Health Rankings and Roadmaps project. She has over 25 years of work experience in organizational development, having worked in a variety of environments, including healthcare, government, the private sector, and education. This event is $20, which includes lunch and program materials.
